NCAA softball roundup: Iosefa and Sumerlin homer to lead Dogs to win

Tina Iosefa and Lacey Sumerlin both homered and drove in two runs to lead the Georgia softball team to a 5-2 win over Northwestern on Saturday at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga.

With the win, Georgia (42-17) moved into the title game in the Athens Regional. That game will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Iosefa has 83 RBIs on the season, tying Alisa Goler for the school and SEC record for RBIs in a season.

Iosefa and Sumerlin hit their homers in a three-run second inning.

Chelsea Wlkinson pitched a complete game and allowed just one earned run and two hits.

 

Auburn 6, USC Upstate 1

Kaylee Carlson pitched a complete-game three-hitter to lead Auburn to a 6-1 victory over USC Upstate on Saturday at Jane B. Moore Field at Auburn, Ala.

Emily Carosone had a hit and drove in two runs to lead the Tigers.

Kasey Cooper, Carlee Wallace, Haley Fagan and Whitney Jordan also drove in runs.

Auburn (51-9) will play in the championship game of the Auburn regional at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

 

Alabama 3, Cal 1

The Alabama softball team beat Cal 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The victory moved Alabama into the championship game of the Tuscaloosa Regional. Cal will play in an elimination game late Saturday night.

Sydney Littlejohn (23-6) pitched a complete game to earn the win. She gave up 10 hits but also stranded 10 runners.

Cal loaded the bases in the first and fifth innings but were unable to score.

Haylie McCleney and Chandler Dare hit back-to-back triples in the third inning as Bama took a 2-0 lead.

Dare doubled in a run in the fifth.

Alabama will play for a regional title at 2;30 p.m. Sunday.
