Hossler, Law win Haskins, Annika awards
Texas and UCLA golfers were named winners of the Haskins and Annika awards on Tuesday night.
Texas junior Beau Hossler won the Haskins Award.
Hossler won five times during the 2015-16 season. He finished with seven top-five and 11 top-10 finishes in 12 starts.
He led Texas with a 69.7 stroke average.
Hossler was unable to play in the NCAA championship final against Oregon after injuring his shoulder in the semifinals.
The Haskins Award is given annually to the top male golfer in the nation.
It is named for the former pro at the Country Club of Columbus. The Haskins Commission, which oversees the voting for the award, is based at the CCC.
Texas’ Ben Crenshaw won the award the first three years it was handed out from 1971-73. Others who have won the award include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Curtis Strange and David Duval.
Bronte Law, a junior at UCLA, won the Annika Award, which is given to the nation’s top female golfer.
Law is the third winner of the award and the second from UCLA. Alison Lee won in 2014.
Law won three tournaments this season and finished in the top 10 in eight of the 10 events she played in.
Law will also receive an exemption into the Evian Championship, the final major of the LPGA season. It is played in September in France.
