Sparks leads Purple & Gold golf tournament

Cody Sparks shot a 68 Saturday to take the first-round lead of the 2016 Purple and Gold golf tournament.

Sparks who won the 2014 tournament, has a three-shot lead over a trio of players — Keith Panco, Matt Davis and Levi Rentz.

Jeremy Sanders is four shots back with a 72, and Troy Hurst is five shots back at 73.

Defending champion Patrick Strickland is seven shots back at 75.

The final round is scheduled for Sunday.

The tournament is being played at Fort Benning Golf Course.
