Little League roundup: Harris Co. senior baseball defeats Athens 11-1

Harris County 11, Oconee County 1

The Harris County senior baseball all-stars beat Athens 11-1 in the opening round of the state tournament Saturday at Oconee County High School in Watkinsville, Ga.

Brandon King was the winning pitcher.

James Moore, Jordan Griffin and Timmy Brooks had two hits apiece.

Harris County will play the Madison County/West Point winner at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Pioneer 18, Franklin County 3

The Pioneer 9-10 softball all-stars routed Franklin County 18-3 on Saturday in the opening round of the state tournament in Cartersville, Ga.

Pioneer scored nine runs in the second and eight more in the third. The game was shortened to four innings due to the mercy rule.

Savanna Bedell led Pioneer with a grand slam. She finished 2-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Kaci Horton, Autumn Bedsole, Kelsie Cross and McKenzie Hale drove in two runs apiece.

Bedell was also the winning pitcher.

Pioneer will play again at 6 p.m. Monday.

Northern 5, Cartersville 0

The Northern 10-11 baseball all-stars beat Cartersville 5-0 on Saturday in the first round of the state tournament at Sally Little League.

Ryan Grantham picked up the win.

Bradford Bush hit a home run and drove in two runs.

Dylan Presley, Mason Schoonover and Cole Thompson each had an RBI.

Northern will play the Athens/Smyrna winner at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Cartersville 18, Northern 6

The Northern 9-10 baseball all-stars lost 18-6 to Cartersville in the first round of the state tournament Saturday in Marietta, Ga.

Ethan Moss had a pair of doubles and Jackson Boatner had one.

Akhil Gutta had a pair of hits. Walker Elrod drove in two runs.

Northern plays at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Bartow County 8, Northern 4

The Northern senior softball all-stars lost 8-4 to host Bartow County on Saturday in the first round of the state tournament in Cartersville, Ga.

Alexis Sibold had three hits to lead Northern. Maggie Mock had a double and drove in two runs.

Northern will play the West Point-Madison County loser at 5 p.m. Sunday.
