Robert Mize in the top 10 after first round of Georgia Amateur Championship

Columbus’ Robert Mize shot a 2-under-par 68 on Tuesday and is tied for eighth after the first round of the 2016 Georgia Amateur Championship.

Mize’s Columbus State teammate Gideon van der Vyver is tied for 55th after a 2-over 72.

Mize won this event in 2014.

The field will play another round of stroke play on Wednesday at the Crabapple course at the Capital City Club, then the field will be cut to 32 for match play. Match play will be contested on the Brookhaven course.

Capital City Club was the host for the first state amateur in 1916.
