CSU rally falls short in 12-9 loss to Lee University

Columbus State rallied from a 9-2 deficit Wednesday but Lee University scored a couple of runs late to hold on for the win in Emerson Ga.

Lee (12-12) scored five runs in the second inning and four in the third to take control of the game. CSU (20-5, 8-1 Peach Belt Conference) rallied for seven runs in the final four innings, but Lee was able to pick up two runs in the sixth inning and a single insurance run in the eighth to secure the win.

Blake Edwards went 3-for-6 with a double to lead CSU. Matt Nettles had a three-run homer in the eighth inning to close the score. Jackson Oliver, Mike McClellan, Christian Miller and Tyler Fichter each had two hits.

CSU’s Kyle Peals (1-1) allowed five runs on six hits over two innings and took the loss. Reliever C. Lamb (2-0) allowed one run on two hits over three innings and picked up the win.

The Cougars (20-4, 8-1 Peach Belt Conference), return to PBC action this weekend.

CSU hosts Lander for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at Burger King Stadium. Saturday’s game is at 6 p.m. and Sunday’s game is set for 1 p.m.
