College baseball roundup: Texas A&M rallies to defeat Auburn 12-8

Texas A&M rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to break an 8-8 tie and defeat Auburn 12-8 at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala., in Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Auburn (9-9, 0-1 SEC) led 6-4 after four innings, but the Aggies (17-1, 1-0) scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead 8-6. Auburn tied the game with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Anfernee Grier (Russell County) went 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Grier is leading the team with a .429 average. He has four homers and has driven in 17 runs on the season.

Joshua Palacios led Auburn, going 4-for-4, scoring two runs and driving in one.

Mark Ecker (2-0) gave up just one hit over the last three innings in relief and picked up the win. Marc Frazier (0-2) gave up four runs on five hits over the last 2 2/3 innings and took the loss.

Game 2 of the doubleheader was played late Saturday night.

Auburn and Texas A&M meet today for the final game of the series today at 2 p.m. The game will be available on SEC Network Plus.

 

Kentucky 11, Georgia 4

Kentucky scored four runs in each the fourth and sixth innings Saturday to defeat Georgia 11-4 at Foley Field in Athens, Ga.

Stephen Wrenn went 2-for-4 to lead the Bulldogs. Trevor Kieboom (CVCC) had an RBI single in the game.

Dustin Beggs (5-0) allowed four runs on six hits to pick up the win. Heath Holder (0-2) gave up five runs on four hits and four walks. He took the loss.

In the SEC opener Friday night, Georgia built a 5-0 lead and went on to beat Kentucky 5-2.

Georgia (14-6, 1-1 SEC) faces Kentucky (13-5, 1-1) in the deciding game of the series today at 1 p.m. The game is on the SEC Network.

 

Alabama 6, LSU 0

Geoffrey Bramlett spread four hits over six innings Saturday to lead Alabama to a 6-0 win over LSU in Baton Rouge, La., in Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Chandler Avant, Chandler Taylor and Will Haynie each had two hits in the game, which saw Alabama (12-5, 1-0 SEC) score four runs in the seventh inning to break open a scoreless game.

Taylor, who homered, and Haynie each drove in two runs.

Bramlett (2-0) walked one and struck out one in the win. Alex Lange (2-1) gave up four runs on 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings and took the loss for LSU (13-4, 0-1).

Game 2 was played late Saturday night. Alabama and LSU play the final game of the series today at 2 p.m. The game will be available on SEC Network Plus.

 

Georgia Tech 8, Virginia Tech 3

Joey Bart went 3-for-4 Saturday to lead Georgia Tech to an 8-3 win over Virginia Tech at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta.

Keyton Gibson gave up one hit in 3 2/3 innings of relief to get the win. Kit Scheetz gave up seven runs on seven hits over four innings and took the loss.

Georgia Tech defeated the Hokies 14-4 in Friday’s game. The final game in the series is today at 1 p.m.

 

CVCC DH postponed

CVCC’s doubleheader at Wallace State Dothan set for Saturday was postponed due to rain.

The doubleheader will be played today at 1 p.m. in Ozark, Ala.
