Bettinger gets complete-game win as Virginia defeats Georgia Tech 9-4
Matt Gonzalez, Kel Johnson and Brandt Stallings each homered Saturday for No. 19 Georgia Tech, but No. 12 Virginia got off to 5-0 lead in the first inning and held on for a 9-4 win at Davenport Field.
Virginia added two runs in each the third and sixth innings to pad the lead. Auburn scored single runs in the third, fourth, seventh and ninth innings.
Alex Bettinger (2-4) spread 8 hits and four runs over nine innings and got the win for Virginia (33-17, 16-10 ACC). Ben Parr (7-1) allowed six runs on 8 hits over 2 1/3 innings and got his first loss for Tech (32-18. 11-14).
The series concludes Sunday at noon.
