Former Spencer star to coach basketball at Cornell

Former Spencer High standout Donovan Williams has joined the men’s basketball coaching staff at Cornell University.

He will be working for Brian Earl, who was hired as head coach in Aprilto be the head coach.

Williams, whose father, George, is the boys basketball coach at Columbus High, was an assistant last season at Princeton. The Tigers went 22-7 and earned a bid to the NIT.

He coached at Lafayette for the five seasons before that, helping the Leopards reach the NCAA tournament in the 2014-15 season.

Williams spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech.

Williams’ brother, Pershin, is the boys basketball coach at Hardaway.
