Columbus State moves up on final day of Saint Leo Invitational

The Columbus State golf team moved up two spots to finish seventh in the Saint Leo Invitational on Tuesday.

The Cougars, who were playing in the first event of the 2015-16 season, shot a 10-over 298 on Tuesday in the third and final round. That left them at 23-over 887.

Florida Southern won with an 814 followed by USC Aiken at 865.

Philipp Matlari led the Cougars on Tuesday with a 73. He finished tied for 22nd at 3-over 219. Duncan van der Vyver shot a 74 and finished tied for 65th at 22-over.

Gideon van der Vyver shot a 75 and finished tied for 19th at 2-over. Cole Cruickshank shot a 76 and finished 40th at 10-over.

Matt Zerbel’s 77 did not count toward CSU’s score Tuesday. He finished tied for 41st at 11-over.

CSU will host the Aflac/Cougar Invitational on Sept. 26-27 at the Country Club of Columbus.
