Columbus State men’s golf team, Gideon van der Vyver have strong finishes
The Columbus State men’s golf team finished in second place Tuesday in the 2016 TVA Community Credit Union Invitational.
CSU started the final round in second place, four shots behind host North Alabama. CSU shot a final-round 292 to finish at 1-over-par 865. North Alabama fired a 285 and finished at 10-under 854.
CSU was led by Gideon van der Vyver. He moved up three spots to finish second at 5-under 211 after a 68 Tuesday.
Phillip Matlari had a 74 and finished at 2-over in ninth place. Matt Zerbel had a 75 to finish at 4-over and in a tie for 12th.
Kyung Jae Lee also had a 75. he finished at 5-over and in a tie for 14th. He tied teammate Cole Cruickshank, whose 76 did not count Tuesday toward the team score.
The CSU golf team finished seventh, sixth, third and second in its four fall tournaments. The Cougars will resume play in the spring.
