CSU men remain unbeaten with rout of Fort Valley State

The Columbus State University men’s basketball team won it’s sixth straight, 109-69 over Fort Valley State on Monday at the Lumpkin Center.

Peach Belt Conference play begins Saturday.

JaCori Payne led seven Cougars in double figures with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Marcus Dixon totaled 12 points and 17 rebounds as the Cougars posted a season-best point total.

Arben Camaj finished with 13 points, Darius Joell and Markis Boyd each had 11. Ryan Burnett and Jamal McKee each scored 10.

“I was very pleased with our ball movement and unselfish play tonight,” coach Robert Moore said. “Overall, we played a great game coming off a long layoff, which is great to see.

“We can’t wait to get the conference schedule started and have to be ready for a tough Flagler team on Saturday.”

Columbus State took control from the opening tip with a 14-3 lead and held Fort Valley to 25 percent shooting in the first half.

Columbus State plays Flagler at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Augustine, Fla.
