CSU women’s tennis players Leon, Lopez earn All-American status
TEMPE, Ariz. — Columbus State University women’s tennis players Beatriz Leon and Beatriz Lopez made program history with their recent All-American selections by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Leon earned All-American honors for her work in doubles play, making her the first Lady Cougar in program history to garner All-American recognition in four straight years. Leon was an All-America singles selection in her first three seasons.
The senior wrapped up her stellar career with an 86-19 record in doubles play and 69-10 in singles. The team was 91-19 during Leon’s time at CSU.
Lopez made history of her own this season, becoming the first freshman in CSU history to be named an All-American in singles and doubles. The Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year exploded onto the scene in her first season, turning in an 18-2 overall mark in singles play and pairing together with Leon for a 17-6 mark in doubles.
Leon and Lopez closed out the season ranked fifth in the country in doubles play, while Lopez ended at No. 18 in singles.
The duo helped Columbus State to a 25-3 record, capturing the program’s first outright PBC regular season title and first PBC Tournament championship. The Lady Cougars made it to the national quarterfinals before falling to eventual national runner-up Lynn.
