The Columbus State baseball team will open the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional on Thursday at 3 p.m. against Belmont.
CSU is seeded second, while Belmont is No. 5.
The tournament is being hosted at Mount Olive, N.C., the top seed. CSU beat Mount Oliver last year for the regional title. The Cougars went on to finish second in the world series.
Mount Olive, the top seed, will play No. 6 seed Erskine at 7 p.m. Two Peach Belt Conference teams — No. 3 USC-Aiken and No. 4 North Georgia — play at 11 a.m.
The six-team double elimination regional will run through Sunday, and the winner of the regional will advance to the national tournament, which will be held May 24-31 at Sauget, Ill., which is just outside of St. Louis.
