The Columbus State men’s basketball team has signed eight players — four junior college transfers and four Division I transfers — for the 2008-09 season.
"We have recruited hard since the spring and have added a lot of experienced players to the mix and we feel each one of these will be able to step in and contribute right away," coach Doug Branson said in a press release.
The Cougars added three players who are 6-foot-6 or taller: Johnnie Harris (6-8, University of New Mexico), Marshez Truitt (6-7, Truett-McConnell College) and Nicholas Gagnon (6-6, CVCC).
The other signees are guards Henry Salter (6-4, Texas Christian University), Carlos Wright (6-1, Tennesee-Martin), Terrence Benson (5-10, Southern Union) and Brandon Bland (6-2, Columbus State (Ohio) Community College) and forward Keonte Keith (6-5, Kennesaw State).
"We feel like these guys provide both talent and depth at every position," said Branson. "This will allow us the opportunity to not only play the style we want but also give us options to do more things. We return only four players so these new guys will be expected to step in immediately and produce. I am excited about the talent level this group brings and look forward to getting started."
CSU will open practice on Oct. 15 and will open the season at home on Nov. 19 against Carver Bible College.
