Columbus State has signed nine players for the 2010 baseball season. The class includes two players from high school and seven players in junior college.
Those players are:
Ÿ Drew Cox, from McDonough, GA, is a senior at Ola High School. He helped lead Ola to the state playoffs last season where he posted a 4.10 ERA in 41 innings pitched with 39 strikeouts.
Ÿ Cameron Griffin, a shortstop from Jonesboro, Ga., is a senior at Dutchtown High School. Last season, he batted .512 with four homers, eight doubles and 31 RBIs.
Ÿ Jason Rogers, an outfielder from College Park, Ga., originally signed early to play for CSU in 2009, but was awarded a redshirt season due to an injury. He will play his sophomore year at Southern Union State Community.
As a freshman, he batted .364 with two homers, 45 RBIs and 13 doubles.
Ÿ Mitch Rider is a catcher playing at Gordon Junior College after transferring from Georgia State where he batted .284 with seven homers and 17 RBIs.
Ÿ Levi Futo is a right-handed pitcher from Woolsey, Ga., and was the closer at Darton Junior College and will make the transition to the starting rotation in 2009.
Ÿ Thomas Campbell is a right-hander from Clarkesville, Ga. He played at former Peach Belt member USC-Upstate in 2007 before transferring to Truett-McConnell. For Upstate, he started 11 games and went 5-2.
Ÿ Justin Pharr, a middle infielder from Canton, Ga., is playing at Young Harris College. He’s batted .330 with four doubles, four triples and one homer in 97 at bats this fall.
Ÿ Logan Foster, who is from Midland, Ga., graduated from Harris County High. In his first season at Chattahoochee Valley, he went 4-3 with two saves and posted an 3.68 ERA.
Ÿ Drew Freeman is another CVCC product and will be making the transition from the infield to the mound this season for the Pirates. He batted .301 with four doubles, two triples, and collected 25 RBIs in his freshman season.
