Rain halts Cougars vs. West Alabama

West Alabama led 7-1 with Columbus State batting in the bottom of the third inning Monday, when rains swept into Columbus and halted play. The game was the final contest of a three-game, season-opening series between the teams at Ragsdale Field.

CSU (0-2) \travels to Boca Raton, Fla., to play Lynn University in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single contest are set to start at noon.

Cougars 1 stroke off first-round lead

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — Michael Hicks shot a 2-under 70 to lead Columbus State to an opening round 292 Monday in the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate tournament, hosted by Catawba College at the Hombre Golf Club.

CSU trails Clayton State (291) by 1 shot, with Lander and Armstrong Atlantic 2 back.

Southeasetern Oklahoma State’s Boston Brittain holds the individual lead at 3-under. Four other players, including CSU’s Andrew Georgiou, shot 71s. Georgiou birdied his last three holes. The other two counting scores for the Cougars were JP van der Walt’s 73 and Steven Paine’s 78.
