Pitching propels Columbus State to Peach Belt series win

FLORENCE, S.C. — Columbus State right-hander Anthony Arrington (2-1) held Francis Marion to one run on nine hits in seven innings, and reliever Blake Norrell finished the game with two scoreless innings, as the Cougars beat 15th-ranked Francis Marion 6-1 Sunday afternoon.

CSU won the three-game Peach Belt Conference baseball weekend set. The victory puts the Cougars (17-11, 7-4 PBC) a half-game behind first-place Georgia College in the conference. Francis Marion fell to 19-10-1 overall and 7-6 in the PBC.

Both teams totalled 10 hits, but the Patriots stranded 14 runners, including the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning.

CSU shortstop Eric Skinner was 3-for-5 with a run scored and RBI, while right fielder Brad Bowen was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.

The Cougars host Faulkner at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
