Columbus State's Phebe Smith scored 17 and Kelsie Weynand and Nakita Holt chipped in double-digit point totals as the Cougars put together big runs to open up each half and hold on for a 62-46 victory over Augusta State on Saturday afternoon at the Lumpkin Center.
The Cougars opened the game with a 9-0 lead and led 29-19 at halftime. CSU then opened the second half with a 23-4 run that left them ahead 52-23, and the Cougars led by as many as 29 points. Augusta State scored 14 straight points late in the game and got as close as 15 points in the final minute of play.
Smith's 17 points were a game high, Weynand scored 12 - all from 3-point territory - and Holt added 11.
