Former Central football star signs with CSU basketball team

Former Central High football player Darren Daniel has signed to play basketball with Columbus State University for the 2015-16 season.

Coach Robert Moore in making the announcement Tuesday said Daniel joins seven others in the recruiting class for the coming season.

Moore earlier announced the signings of Demetres Abrams, Arben Camaj, Jordan Jedneski, Jamal McKee, DeMarcus McVay, Matthias Sigurdarson and Brentine Taylor.

Daniel orignally signed to play football with Stanford University. He later transferred to Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Miss. He finished his college football career at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala.

Daniel played for the Columbus Lions during the 2015 PIFL championship season.

"I feel Darren can immediately come in and help us because of his athletic ability and outside shooting skills," Moore said.
