Columbus State in second place in Aflac/CSU Invitational

Columbus State is in second place in the Aflac/CSU Invitational after the first two rounds were played on Monday at the Country Club of Columbus.

The 13th-ranked Cougars, playing in their first tournament of the season, led after the morning round with a 5-under 279. But they went 3-over 287 in the afternoon, allowing Lee University to ease past them.

Lee, which won this event last year, shot rounds of 281 and 282 to finish Day 1 at 5-under 563, three shots ahead of CSU.

"In many respects, it was a good opening day," CSU coach Mark Immelman said. "We have a lot

that we can build on and we look forward to the opportunity to be in contention for the title tomorrow afternoon."

CSU has a pair of players tied for third on the individual leaderboard.

Robert Mize is 3-under after rounds of 68 and 71. Taylor Martin shot rounds of 69-70.

They trailed Point University's Francisco Oliveira (70-67--137) and Lee"s Taylor Davis (69-69--138).

Mize and Martin are tied with Florida Southern's John Coultas (69-70--139) and Lee's Peyton Sliger (71-68--139).

CSU's Taehyung Kim is tied for 24th (71-74--145) and Gideon van der Vyver is tied for 28th (74-72--146).

CSU's Yannick Gumowski would have been tied for 18th (71-73--144), but he was disqualified after his second round due to a scoring error. As a result, CSU had to count Kim's 74 in the second round, dropping CSU three back instead of two.

The final round of the tournament will be played today.
