Montevallo defeats CSU volleyball team 3-1

Megan Frame and Abby King each had 13 kills Tuesday, but Columbus State fell to Montevallo at the Lumpkin Center.

Columbus State (2-17, 0-9 Peach Belt Conference) got off to a good start in the first set and took taking an 11-4 lead. But Montevallo came roaring back on a 17-2 run to take control of the set and win the match 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 24-26, 26-15).

King also had three aces and 15 digs in the match. Cori Ehmen recorded 37 assists and Caytlin Merritt tied the CSU record with 30 digs.

The Lady Cougars did manage to rally and win the third set. After trailing 23-24, Malaisia Stallworth tied the set with a kill. Merritt then hit an ace to put CSU up 25-24. King and Kylie Beaubien combined to block a Montevalo return to score the winning point for CSU.

Columbus State returns to action this weekend, hosting Francis Marion on Friday at 7 p.m. and UNC Pembroke Saturday at 2 p.m.
