Columbus State women ranked No. 7 in preseason poll
The Columbus State women's basketball team will start the season ranked No. 7 as the Division II Bulletin Top 25 preseason poll was released Wednesday.
The Lady Cougars are the highest ranked team from the Peach Belt Conference and the Southeast Region.
CSU went 31-2 last season with just one loss during the regular season as the Lady Cougars won the PBC regular-season title. They went on to win their second straight PBC championship and advanced to the Southeast Regional, where they lost in the semifinals.
CSU will be led by guard Michelle Mitchell, who led the PBC in scoring with 20. 1 points per game. She set a new CSU single-season record with 644 points.
Mitchell was a Super 16 selection by the Division II Bulletin.
CSU, which opened practice last week, plays an exhibition game against the Army All-Stars on Nov. 5. The regular-season opener is Nov. 13 against Fort Valley State.
