Lady Cougars host Lander

The Columbus State women's soccer team begins the first test of the postseason at 4 p.m. today when it hosts Lander in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference tournament.

The Lady Cougars head into the tournament as the top seed after winning its ninth -- and second straight -- regularseason championship.

CSU has won five PBC tournament titles, including last season.

"We had a really strong regular season," CSU coach Jay Entlich said. "To get through our conference without a loss is a big accomplishment."

The Lady Cougars went 10-0-1 in the conference and 15-2-1 overall, winning 12 games to end the regular season. It was the second straight season CSU went unbeaten in the PBC.

"The hardest part for us now is that the regular season is meaningless," Entlich said. "We have to put everything behind us because it's now one and done. We have to come out on Tuesday with a sense of urgency and hopefully we can win games and keep the season going."

CSU will be playing Lander for the second time in less than two weeks. The Lady Coungars blanked Lander 4-0 in Greenwood, S.C., on Oct. 24.

"Lander is going to be a quality opponent," Entlich said. "They have played tough against some really good teams, including a tie with Armstrong State on Saturday.

We will have to be sharp in order to come out with a result."

The CSU-Lander winner will advance to the PBC semifinals, which will take place Friday in Evans, Ga.
