Shelby Rolling scores twice as Columbus State wins Peach Belt championship
EVANS, Ga. -- Shelby Rolling scored a pair of goals to lead Columbus State to a 3-2 victory over North Georgia on Sunday in the championship game of the Peach Belt Conference tournament.
The win gives No. 6 CSU its sixth PBC tournament title. It is the second straight year that the Lady Cougars swept the PBC regular season and tournament titles.
It was also coach Jay Entlich's 200th-career win as CSU.
CSU (18-2-1), which has 15 straight, earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning the tournament. The NCAA will announced the pairing for the Southeast Regional at 6:30 p.m. Monday night.
Rolling, who was named all-conference last week, scored her first goal from about 20 yards out at 8:57 of the first half.
North Georgia (15-3-1) tied the match at 11:17 on Jacy Ramey's 13th goal of the season.
Mandy Janowitz put CSU back ahead with her seventh goal of the season at 28:05.
Rolling gave CSU a two-goal lead, 3-1, at 58:52 with an assist by Chelsea Person. For Rolling, it was seventh goal of the season.
The Nighthawks got a goal at 74:53 from Madison Salters to close out the scoring.
The win was the fourth straight by CSU over North Georgia.
Maylyn Parsons played the entire game in net for CSU and made six saves.
Rolling was named the PBC tournament MVP after scoring three goals and assisting on another.
Joining Rolling on the All-tournament team were Janowitz, a forward, and defenders Andi Larese and Brooke Nail.
