CSU soccer hosts half of Southeast Regional, gets bye to semi-final

The Columbus State women's soccer team will begin its quest for the NCAA Division II national championship at home.

The Lady Cougars (18-2-1) found out Monday night that they will be the hosts for one-half of the Southeast Regional this weekend.

As the No. 2 seed in the six-team region, CSU, which has won 15 straight, will receive a bye into the regional semifinals, which will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.

In the first round on Friday at Walden, No. 3 seed North Georgia will play No. 6 Limestone at 5 p.m. The winner will play CSU.

"To start (3-2-1) was a little tough for us," said CSU coach Jay Entlich, who won his 200th game on Sunday. "But I think in the end we showed the NCAA we belonged.

"Now it is up to us. Obviously, every game is tough now."

In the other half of the regional, Carson-Newman (18-2) is the host and No. 1 seed. Carson-Newman was ranked No. 1 in the latest national poll.

The other teams in that half of the regional are No. 4 Wingate and No. 5 Armstrong State.

Last season, CSU advanced to the quarterfinals for the third time. The Lady Cougars lost at Rollins, which went on to lose in the nation championship game.

On Sunday, Columbus State took a 3-2 victory over North Georgia in the championship game of the Peach Belt Conference tournament.

The win gave CSU its sixth PBC tournament title. It is the second straight year that the Lady Cougars swept the PBC regular season and tournament titles.
