Mitchell, Williams lead Columbus State women to easy win

Michelle Mitchell and Gabby Williams scored 13 points apiece as Columbus State rolled to an easy 81-41 victory over Fort Valley State on Friday night at the Lumpkin Center.

The game, which was part of the Peach Belt/SIAC Challenge, was the season-opener for both teams.

Four other CSU players also scored in double figures: Ashley Asouzu had 12, and Eryn Cochran, Britteny Tatum and Tatiana Wayne all scored 11.

Asouzu finished with a double-double as she grabbed 11 rebounds to lead CSU. She also had three blocks.

Mitchell had six rebounds. Cochran had four assists.

Williams had five steals and Cochran added four.

Jayme Gilbert led Fort Valley State with 15 points.

Columbus State jumped out to a 26-11 lead in the first quarter and expanded that to 41-20 by halftime.

Columbus State will play Albany State at 3 p.m. today.

Fort Valley State will play Georgia Southwestern at 5 p.m.

Georgia Southwestern beat Albany State 67-54 Friday afternoon.
