BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Columbus State went on a 19-2 run in the second quarter on its way to a 65-53 victory over King on Friday afternoon.

Arnelle Collins hit a 3-pointer to give King an 11-10 lead with 9:40 left in the second quarter.

CSU scored the next 10 points and 19 of 21 to take a 29-13 lead. The Lady Cougars took a 29-15 into halftime.

Michelle Mitchell led the Lady Cougars (3-0) with 26 points as she made 13-of-25 shots from the floor.

Eryn Cochran added 12 points for the Lady Cougars.

Ashley Asouzu led CSU with 13 rebounds. Mitchell added nine.

Cochran hit a 3-pointer and Mitchell added a basket as CSU built its biggest lead of the game, 17 points (36-19) with 6:29 left in the third quarter.

KIng made a run to get within nine at 38-29, but Cochran hits two straight 3-pointers to put the game away. CSU's lead would not fall below double digits for the remainder of the game.

King (1-3) was led by Ashley Albertson with 10 points.

"We didn't shoot the ball well tonight at all, but we rebounded well and created some turnovers to give us some extra opportunities to score," CSU coach Jonathan Norton said in a news release. "It feels good to get the first road win of the season under the belt."

CSU opened the season last week with wins over Fort Valley State (81-41) and Albany State (81-46).

CSU continues its road trip with a game at Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn., at 2 p.m. Saturday.
