Postseason honors roll in for Columbus State's Nicole Corcione

Columbus State soccer player Nicole Corcione was named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, it was announced Friday.

The junior was voted to the first team this year after making third team last season.

Corcione has scored 15 goals and 13 assists this season. With 43 points, she has matched Stephanie Lowery's team record, which she set in 2010.

Corcione ranks third in the nation in assists and in the top 30 in goals, points, assists per game and points per game.

Corcione scored a hat trick against Georgia Southwestern on Oct. 6. She set a team record with seven points -- two goals and three assists -- against Emmanuel.

CSU plays Grand Valley State at 1 p.m. Saturday for the NCAA Division II national championship.

Elite 90

Corcione was also named the Elite 90 award winner for the women's soccer championship earlier this week.

The Elite 90 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships, according to a release from CSU.

Corcione is the second student-athlete in Columbus State history to be recognized with the award joining Filip Cojbasic, who won the award for men's tennis during the 2010-11 academic year.

Corcione, who is majoring in nursing, has a 4.0 grade-point average.

More awards

CSU placed six players on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Southeast Region teams.

Corcione, Olivia Jarrell, Maylyn Parsons and Shelby Rolling were named to the first team, while Hugrun Elvarsdottir and Taylor Marks made the second team.

Corcione also won CSU's first Southeast Region Player of the Year award in five years.

Jarrell, a freshman, leads CSU with 16 goals. Parsons has allowed just 17 goals in 25 matches. Rolling earned Southeast honors for the fourth straight year. She has scored seven goals with four assists for 18 points while contributing to 13 team shutouts on the back line.
