Mitchell paces Lady Cougars to 76-54 win at Tuskegee
TUSKEGEE, Ala. -- Michelle Mitchell scored 24 points Saturday to lead No. 16 Columbus State to a 76-54 win over Tuskegee at Chappie James Arena.
Mitchell was 10-of-16 from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
CSU (4-1) led by seven points at the end of the first quarter and took an 8-point lead into halftime at 30-22.
The Lady Cougars added to the lead in each of the third and fourth quarters.
Gabby Williams chipped in 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Ashley Asouzu had nine points and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds for the Lady Cougars.
Ashley Johnson scored nine points and Tatiana Wyane added eight for CSU.
Columbus State was 29-of-64 (45.3 percent) from the field but went just 4-of-19 from behind the arc. CSU was 14-of-20 (70 percent) from the free throw line.
The Lady Cougars held Tuskegee to just 13-of-39 (33.3 percent) from the field. Tuskegee (1-6) got to the foul line often but converted only 25-of-40 chances.
CSU is back in action Tuesday when the team travels to Albany State for 5:30 p.m. game.
