Columbus State sets home opener for Feb. 10 at revamped Burger King Stadium

The Columbus State baseball team will open their refurbished Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

The Cougars will open the season on the road Feb. 5 and 6 at Erskine in Due West, S.C., then return home for the next four games.

After the game against Albany State, the Cougars host Lynn for a three-game series -- doubleheader on Feb. 13 and a single game on Feb. 14.

CSU announced its 50-game baseball schedule this week. The Cougars will play 27 at home.

"We always like to play a challenging schedule and this year is no different," CSU coach Greg Appleton said. "We are going to be pushed in every game and that is going to help us later in the year and also in the postseason.

"It's going to be thrilling to be playing our home games in a brand new ballpark, so that is going to bring an extra excitement to our guys as well as our fans."

CSU begins Peach Belt Conference play with a series at Young Harris on Feb. 19-21. The Cougars host North Georgia the following weekend.

The renovation of Ragsdale Field is nearing completion, according to a news release from the school.

In the past two weeks, the video scoreboard was placed above right centerfield wall. The roof that will cover most of the chair-back seats was also completed.

"Just watching the progress of the stadium over the past few weeks has been really exciting," Appleton said. "To see the stadium really take shape is unbelievable.

"Burger King Stadium is really shaping into something special. The whole Columbus State community is going to be proud of it."
