Listless Columbus State loses to Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Columbus State entered Saturday night's game against Georgia College in a three-way tie for the Western Division lead in the Peach Belt Conference.

Young Harris and Montevallo both lost, giving the Cougars a chance to take the lead alone.

But CSU couldn't take advantage, losing 88-78 at the Centennial Center.

"We could not get anything going all night long," CSU coach Robert Moore said. "I didn't think we had a lot of energy and Georgia College was really prepared tonight and put it to us.

"We had an opportunity tonight to gain ground on the top of our division, and we didn't take advantage of that."

The loss ended a four-game winning streak for the Cougars (16-5, 10-4).

Brent Jackson led CSU with 17 points. Arben Camaj added 10, while Matthias Sigurdarson matched his season-high with 10.

CSU's leading scorer, Cam Baker, scored just nine points, 11 below his average. Baker was just 3-of-8 from the field and 0-for-1 from 3-point range.

After trailing by as a many as 10 points late in the first half, the Cougars cut the deficit to six, 46-40, at halftime.

Darren Daniel scored to open the second half, bringing the Cougars within four. But that was as close as they would get.

The Bobcats led by as many as 17 in the second half.

CSU will play at Montevallo on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
