Columbus State rallies in ninth to edge Albany State
After giving up the lead in the top of the ninth inning, Columbus State rallied with two outs in the bottom to edge Albany State 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon.
The game was the first for the Cougars at newly renovated Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
Albany State (0-5) scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take a 7-6 lead.
Mike McClellan led off the CSU rally with a single to center field. After Chris Daniel struck out and Grant Berry popped out, Ryan Ihle doubled to left center, driving pinch-runner Juan Montana home with the tying run.
Blake Edwards followed with a double to left center, sending Ihle home with the game-winner. It was Edwards' fourth hit of the game.
Justin Evans (2-0) picked up the win after losing the lead in the ninth. He allowed two runs -- one earned -- on three hits.
McClellan had three hits, while Ihle had a pair.
CSU (3-1) will host Lynn for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
