Columbus State women win fifth straight

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- Playing without their leader, Michelle Mitchell, for most of the game, the Columbus State Lady Cougars pulled away from Montevallo in the fourth quarter for a 71-56 victory on Wednesday night.

The win was the Lady Cougars' fifth straight. It kept them in a tie for first place in the Peach Belt Conference's Western Division with Clayton State, which beat USC Aiken 78-64 on Wednesday.

Mitchell, who was ill, played just nine minutes and did not score. CSU coach Jonathan Norton said she was "just really sick and had no energy, so he held her out."
