Wild pitch costs Columbus State in 10-inning loss to North Georgia
DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Seventh-ranked North Georgia scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning to edge Columbus State 4-3 on Friday at Bob Stein Field.
The 28th-ranked Cougars (10-3, 3-1 Peach Belt Conference) trailed 2-1 after seven innings. They were able to take the lead by scoring a pair of runs in the eighth.
Ryan Ihle singled and was sacrificed to second. After two walks loaded the bases, reliever Taylor Keinat threw away a pickoff attempt at first base, allowing Ihle to score the tying run.
After another walk, Matt Nettles drove in the go-ahead run on a groundout.
North Georgia (10-2, 4-0) tied the game in the ninth on a bases-loaded walk.
CSU starter Caleb Kutsche went seven innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. Justin Evans (2-1) took the loss.
Jackson Oliver and Tyler Fichter had two hits apiece for CSU.
The teams will continue the series at 1 p.m. Saturday.
