CSU player Mitchell, coaches Norton, Moore win PBC awards
The Columbus State basketball teams combined to win three major awards at the Peach Belt Conference banquet Friday night.
CSU player Michelle Mitchell was named the Women's Player of the Year for the second straight season. She is the first player in PBC history to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
Mitchell leads the PBC in scoring at 19.9 points per game.
Her coach, Jonathan Norton, was named as co-Coach of the Year. Norton led the Lady Cougars to their second straight regular-season championship. He shared the award with Augusta's Nate Teymer. CSU and Augusta square off in the PBC tournament semifinals Saturday night.
Meanwhile, CSU's Robert Moore was named as the men's co-Coach of the Year. He shared the award with Georgia College's Mark Gainous.
Moore led the Cougars to their first regular-season championship since 2006. The Cougars are 21-6 and play in the PBC tournament semifinals on Saturday.
CSU's Cam Baker earned All-Conference first-team honors. Brent Jackson earned second-team honors.
Ashley Asouzu earned second-team honors from the Lady Cougars.
