Edwards, Miller lead CSU to sweep of doubleheader from Saginaw Valley
Blake Edwards went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs Saturday as Columbus State defeated Saginaw Valley 10-3 in the second game of a doubleheader sweep for the Cougars at Burger King Stadium.
Ryan Ihle went 2-for-3 and also drove in three runs for the Cougars.
CSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings and cruised to the win.
Albert Harless (3-0) gave up three runs on five hits and struck out five over six innings to get the win.
Bailey Magsig (0-1) gave up four runs on four hits over three innings and took the loss.
In Game 1, Christian Miller hit a three-run homer to put CSU on top and then drove in two other runs with sacrifice flies to lead the Cougars to a 7-3 win over Saginaw Valley.
Edwards went 3-for-5 and Mike McClellan went 2-for-3 for CSU.
Caleb Kutsche (2-0) allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out seven over seven innings to record the win.
Jarrod Little allowed one hit over the last two innings to close out the game.
Mike Ellenbest (1-1) allowed six runs on six hits over five innings and took the loss.
CSU (14-4) and Saginaw Valley (3-3) play another doubheader today beginning at 1 p.m.
CSU plays Wednesday against Tuskegee in Montgomery, Ala., at 4 p.m.
