CSU drops second straight to Lander
Columbus State dropped its second straight game to Lander on Saturday night, 14-5, at Burger King Stadium.
The seventh-ranked Cougars (20-7, 8-3 Peach Belt Conference) were down 7-5 after five innings, but the 25th-ranked Bearcats (23-5, 14-3) scored two in the sixth and four in the seventh to pull away.
Lander, which has won 15 straight, has taken over possession of first place in the conference. CSU dropped to third behind USC Aiken (13-4).
Matt Nettles and Mike McClellan hit home runs for CSU. Lake Hart and McClellan had three hits apiece.
Albert Harless (3-1) suffered the loss. He allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings.
In Friday night’s game, the Bearcats’ Colby Lusignan hit a home run in the top of the ninth for a 9-8 victory over No. 7 Columbus State.
The Cougars (20-6, 8-2) tied the game at 8-8 in the eighth as two runs scored on a throwing error.
CSU, which has lost three straight, will try to avoid the sweep at 1 p.m. Sunday.
