Homers power CSU over Point 13-3

The Columbus State baseball team scored seven runs in the sixth inning and went on to rout Point 13-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Burger King Stadium.

The game ended after seven innings due to the mercy rule.

The 17th-ranked Cougars hit three homers in the inning. Blake Edwards hit a three-run homer. Matt Nettles and Mike McClellan hit solo homers.

Edwards finished the game with four RBIs. Todd Fichter drove in two.

Christian Miller and Ryan Ihle had two hits apiece as did Edwards and Fichter.

Luke Porter (2-0) picked up the win. He allowed three runs on three hits and a walk in six innings. He struck out six.

CSU (22-7) opens a Peach Belt Conference series at Flagler at 6 p.m. Friday.
