Waugh’s 6 RBIs powers CSU to sweep of West Alabama

Keeli Waugh hit a three-run homer in both games Wednesday as Columbus State swept a doubleheader from West Alabama 6-0, 6-1 at Cougar Field.

In Game 1, Waugh hit a three-run homer and Rachel Rhodes hit a two-run blast to power CSU to a 6-0 win over the Tigers.

With CSU ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning, Waugh’s homer put CSU up 4-0. Rhodes added her homer in the sixth inning.

Peyton Sorrells (9-5) spread four hits over five innings and struck out four to pick up the win. Ashley Stassin (4-3) gave up six runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings and took the loss.

In Game 2, CSU took a 3-0 after three innings. Waugh’s homer to left in the sixth inning brought home Kailey Boone and Rhodes for a 6-0 lead.

Hanna Manley (7-6) spread four hits over five innings and picked up the win. Andrea Edmonds (6-6) took the loss.

The Lady Cougars (20-17, 4-6 Peach Belt Conference) travel to Milledgeville, Ga., on Thursday for a doubleheader at Georgia College beginning at 4 p.m.
