Briant leads CSU softball team over Georgia College 7-4

Kayleigh Briant went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs Thursday to lead the Columbus State softball team to a 7-4 win over Georgia College in the first game of a doubleheader.

Georgia College took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Briant started a three-run rally for CSU in the top of the fourth inning with a leadoff double. Elizabeth Perdue then singled, and Briant scored on a sacrifice fly. Kailey Boone followed with a single. Perdue later scored on an error, and Boone came home on another sacrifice fly.

CSU added two more runs in the fifth when Briant singled in Kia Smith, and Perdue doubled in Briant. Perdue and Smith each had two hits and an RBI.

Peyton Sorrells (10-5) allowed three runs on five hits and struck out four over six innings to record the win. Marisa Boyette (11-5) allowed six runs on six hits and took the loss.

The second game was played later Thursday night.

CSU (21-17, 5-6 Peach Belt Conference) hosts USC Aiken for doubleheader Saturday at Cougar Field beginning at 2 p.m.
