Columbus State men’s golf team leads Peach Belt tournament

The Columbus State men’s golf team leads the Peach Belt Conference golf championships after the first round Friday at the Slammer & Squire course at St. Augustine, Fla.

The Cougars shot a 3-over 291 and leads USC Aiken by one shot and host Flagler by two. Clayton State and Lander are tied at 295.

CSU’s Yannick Gumowski shot a 2-under-par 70. He is in second place, a shot behind Aiken’s Hubert Tisserand.

TaeHyung Kim and Gideon Van der Vyver both shot 1-over 73 and are tied for 11th. Robert Mize shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 24th.

Duncan Van der Vyver’s 76 did not count toward CSU’s score.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cougars are in sixth place after shooting a 40-over 328. Armstrong State leads the women’s tournament with a 301, seven shots ahead of Flagler. Young Harris is 11 shots ahead of CSU in fifth place.

Bailey Hockgertle led CSU with a 78 and is tied for 12th. Jordan Booker and Sarah Grace Drop both shot 83 and are tied for 27th.

Hannah Holland and Shelby Banta both shot 84 and are tied for 31st.

The second round for both tournaments is scheduled for Saturday.
