Grant Berry leads CSU over Augusta 10-9
Grant Berry went 4-for-4 with two doubles and drove in four runs Friday to lead Columbus State to a 10-9 win over Augusta at Jaguar Field.
CSU used a four-run third inning to take a 6-3 lead, but the Jaguars came back with three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 6-6.
Blake Edwards, who went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs, put CSU back on top 8-6 in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run homer. The Cougars added two more runs in the seventh to go up 10-6.
Augusta got back in the game with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, but CSU’s Justin Evans came in to pitch a scoreless ninth and picked up his first save.
Luke Porter (5-0) gave up two runs on five hits in four innings of relief and picked up the win. Casey Lenoch (4-1) gave up two runs on five hits over four innings and took the loss.
The win enabled CSU (31-10, 16-6 Peach Belt Conference) to climb into a first-place conference tie with Augusta (27-12. 16-6).
The teams meet Saturday at 2 p.m. and close out the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
