Columbus State men increase lead to eight in Peach Belt Golf Championships
The Columbus State men’s golf team increased its lead in the Peach Belt Conference men’s championship to eight shots after Saturday’s second round.
The Cougars shot an 2-under-par 286 for a two-round total of 1-over 577.
Flagler, the host school, moved up a spot to second at 585 (293-292). USC Aiken, whcih was second, dropped to third at 593 (292-301).
The Cougars were led by TaeHyung Kim, who shot a 4-under 68 Saturday to take over first place in the race for medalist honors. He stands at 3-under 141, one shot ahead of Aiken’s Hubert Tisserand, Flagler’s Sebastian Barnoya and Georgia Southwestern’s Ethan Chamineak.
Gideon Van der Vyver shot a 72 and is seventh at 1-over 145. Duncan Van der Vyver is tied for ninth at 147 after a 71.
Robert Mize shot a second straight 75. He is tied for 15th at 150.
Yannick Gumowski’s 77 was CSU’s drop score. He is tied with Duncan Van der Vyver at 147.
The final round at the Slammer and Squire Course at the World Golf Hall of Fame is scheduled for Sunday.
Meanwhile, the CSU women slipped a spot to seventh in the women’s tournament, which is being played on the same course.
CSU shot a 345 Saturday and is at 57-over 673, 13 shots behind North Georgia. Armstrong State leads at 609.
CSU’s Bailey Hockgertle (89-167) and Jordan Booker (84-167) are tied for 26th. Sarah Grace Drop (85-168) is tied for 30th. Shalby Banta (87-171) is 33rd and Hannah Holland (90-174) is 34th.
