CSU sweeps Augusta with 20-7 win

Matt Nettles and Justin Evans both hit grand slams as Columbus State finished a sweep of Augusta with a 20-7 rout on Sunday at Jaguar Field in Augusta, Ga.

CSU finished with 20 hits Sunday as each of CSU’s nine starters got at least one hit.

Center fielder Tyler Ficjter went 4-for-6 and scored four times. Ryan Ihle had a pair of hits and four RBIs.

Jackson Oliver and Mike McClellan had three hits apiece.

Christian Miller had a pair of hits, including a homer.

Caleb Kutsche earned the win. He allowed six runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings.

CSU, which has won 11 straight, is 33-10 overall and 18-6 in the Peach Belt Conference. Augusta State is 27-14 and 16-8.

The Cougars are in first place in the PBC with a better winning percentage than second-place Lander.

Lander is done with its PBC schedule at 22-8. The Cougars will need to win five of its final six to win the PBC title.

 

Georgia 5,

South Carolina 3

Georga hit four solo homers to down No. 2 South Carolina 5-3 on Sunday at Foley Field in Athens, Ga.

Daniel Nichols and Stephen Wrenn hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the eighth inning to put Georgia ahead.

Mitchell Webb a homer in the seventh inning to the game at 3-3.

Webb also doubled in Georgia’s other run in the second inning.

Skyler Weber hit the other homer in the fifth.

The win also gave the Dogs the series 2-1.

Drew Moody earned the win in relief. He blanked the Gamecocks on two hits over the final three innings.

Georgia is 20-17 overall and 6-9 in the SEC. South Carolina is 29-8 and 11-4.

Georgia plays at Clemson on Tuesday.

 

Alabama 7, Ole Miss 1

Chandler Avant and Chance Vincent drove in two runs apiece as part of a six-run inning for Alabama in its 7-2 win over No. 8 Ole Miss on Sunday at Thomas-Sewell Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Ole Miss had tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning. The Tide scored six in the bottom of the inning.

Nick Eicholtz picked up the win, going six innings and allowing just one run.

The win gives Bama the 2-1 series win.

Alabama is 22-14 overall and 8-7 in the SEC. Ole Miss is 26-10 and 7-8.

 

Georgia Tech 16,

N.C. State 7

Georgia Tech scored six runs in the sixth inning to break a tie and went on to rip N.C. State 16-7 on Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta.

Kel Johnson drove in two of the runs in the sixth. He finished with five RBIs.

The Jackets also scored five in the eighth. Brandt Stallings had the big blow with a three-run homer.

Georgia Tech is 24-11 overall and 8-9 in the ACC. N.C. State is 26-10 and 10-6.
