Two-time Women’s World Cup Soccer champion and Olympic gold medalist Brandi Chastain will be the guest speaker at Columbus State’s second annual Girls in the Game Advance Initiative on April 28.

The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Country Club of Columbus.

CSU began the initiative to raise money for women’s programs.

Chastain scored the game-winning penalty kick in the 1999 World Cup championship game. Chastain, who spent 16 years on the U.S. Women’s National Team, is now an assistant coach for the Santa Clara University women’s team.

“Attracting Brandi Chastain to share her message of empowering female student-athletes blends perfectly with the Girl’s in the Game Advance Initiative,” CSU athletic director Todd Reeser said in a news release. “Investing in the female student-athlete experience serves them well as champions today representing CSU, but more importantly, as leaders for tomorrow in their chosen field of endeavor.”

The event will also feature Columbus State student-athletes, past and present.

The Girls in the Game Advance Initiative is an invite-only event. For more information, contact Jay Entlich at 706-507-8055 or entlich_jason@columbusstate.edu.
