Columbus State men’s golf team slips to fifth in NCAA regional

The Columbus State men’s golf team slipped two spots to fifth after the second round of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional.

The Cougars shot a 297 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 12-over-par 588 at the El Campeon course at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

They are 10 shots behind St. Leo (298-280—578).

Lynn took over the lead at 574 (282-292) with West Florida dropping to second at 575 (280-295). Florida Southern is third at 577 (293-284).

The top five teams from the regional advance to the national championship in Denver later this month.

Gideon va der Vyver and TaeHyung Kim, who both 71s on Monday, both shots 75s Tuesday. They are tied for 16th at 2-over 146.

Robert Mize has CSU’s round of the day with a 72. He is tied for 50th at 8-over 152.

Yannick Gumowski shot a second straight 75 and is tied for 34th at 6-over 150.

Duncan van der Vyver had CSU’s drop score Tuesday with a 76. He is also at 150.
