Columbus State to tip off season at home on Nov. 16
The Columbus State men’s basketball team will open the 2016-17 season at home on Nov. 16,
The Cougars, who won the Peach Belt Conference regular-season title last season, will host Middle Georgia State. This will be the third straight year that CSU has opened the season against Middle Georgia.
“I’m glad to be releasing the schedule for the upcoming year,” CSU coach Robert Moore said. “Our non-conference schedule is going to give us time to build team chemistry for a championship run inside the very talented Peach Belt Conference.
“We can’t wait to hit the court and deliver a winning and entertaining basketball style to our fans”
CSU will play 26 regular-season games with 12 of them at the Lumpkin Center.
Two days after the opener, CSU heads to Montevallo, Ala., for a pair of neutral-site games against Miles and Lane.
After a break for Thanksgiving, the Cougars play their first true road game at Fort Valley State on Nov. 30.
CSU begins defense of its PBC title at Flagler on Dec. 17. The Cougars stay in conference to host Augusta on Dec. 19. Augusta knocked CSU out of the PBC tournament last season.
After Christmas break, CSU returns to host Auburn-Montgomery, which is playing in NCAA Division II for the first time this season.
The Cougars resume PBC play on Jan. 4 when they host UNC Pembroke.
CSU will close the season with 17 straight conference games, including a home-and-home with rival Montevallo, which is leaving the PBC after the 2016-17 season to return to the Gulf South Conference. CSU hosts the Falcons on Jan. 25 and go to Montevallo on Feb. 11.
The regular-season ends on Feb. 22 with a home game against Georgia Southwestern.
CSU went 21-8 last season, including 14-5 in the PBC.
