Auburn rallies from 5-0 deficit to defeat Vols 7-6
Auburn rallied from a 5-0 deficit and held off a late Tennessee rally Saturday to defeat the Vols 7-6 at Plainsman Park.
Jonathan Foster went 3-for-4 to lead Auburn. Niko Buentello went 2-for-5 with a homer and double and drove in two runs. His solo shot in the eighth inning gave Auburn a 6-5 lead.
The Tigers added another run that inning to go up 7-5. The Vols threatened in the top of the ninth. They picked up one run, but could not tie the game.
Gabe Klobosits (2-2) gave up a run on two hits over two innings and picked up the win. Jon Lipinski (2-1) gave up two runs on five hits over 3 1/3 innings and took the loss.
Auburn (17-19, 5-10 Southeastern Conference) took the series 2-1. Tennessee (20-16, 4-11) won 13-4 on Thursday, and Auburn won 2-0 on Friday.
Auburn hosts Alabama State Tuesday at 7 p.m.
