Auburn’s Anfernee Grier a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist

Auburn outfielder Anfernee Grier (Russell County High) was named Wednesday as one of 25 semifinalists for the 2016 Golden Spikes Award.

The award is given by USA Baseball.

Grier, who earned second-team All-SEC honors, batted .366 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs. He was second in the SEC in homers and fourth in average.

He was in the top 10 in other categories as well: 87 hits (second), 56 runs scored (first), 19 stolen bases (seventh) and 137 total bases (first).

The finalists for the award will be announced on June 13.
